As part of my research into design elegance, I will be examining several devices that have been labeled by multiple sources as being elegant. In addition to the Palm Pilot Professional, which I will discuss more later, I have decied to get a Mac OS9 system up-and-running. In this case, I will be restoring a circa-2000 iMac DV SE G3/500. In addition to restoring the computer, I will be using as many vintage and/or equivalent parts as possible, such as the black pro keyboard and mouse. Here is the mouse.
The Apple Black Pro Mouse was packaged with the computer being restored. It was an update to the much-maligned, but heavy-on-personality "hockey puck" mouse from the original iMac. The Pro mouse is optical and is USB. The entire surface pivots to "click". There is no scrolling function or "right-click" function. It's currently plugged into a MacBook Pro Retina and is working beautifully - hence the red glow.
Maybe all of this will end up in a Museum of Design Elegance.
